PC Nystedt and his partner Constable Mike Landry were dispatched to an assault/domestic complaint at a cottage in the area of Furnace Falls, Snowdon Township, Haliburton County. During a search for a suspect in the woods Constable Nystedt was attacked and stabbed in the leg. He later died from his wound.

Postscript

The suspect, Leonard Roy Phillips, was convicted of Second Degree Murder without the possibility of parole for 18 years, reduced to 15 years after appeal.
